DANVILLE, VA November 8, 2010 - Averett University (AU) and Danville Community College (DCC) have established a new partnership to assist area residents, it was announced today by DCC President Dr. Carlyle Ramsey and AU President Dr. Tiffany Franks.

The AU/DCC PASSPORT Transfer Program will meet the academic needs of promising students who do not initially meet Averett’s admissions requirements. More specifically the PASSPORT Transfer Program is designed to get students from Danville, Pittsylvania County and Halifax County better prepared for collegiate work through initial enrollment at DCC. Upon successful completion of the approved prerequisites (12 credits), students will qualify for guaranteed admission to the university.

“Together Danville Community College and Averett can help these students earn a bachelor’s degree in the Southside region,? Franks said. “The true impact of this partnership will be seen over the next several years, in the lives it changes among the youth of this region.?

Ramsey added, “We are pleased with this new partnership. It builds on a number of successful partnerships already in place between Danville Community College and Averett University. DCC is committed to student success. Our first priority is for students to complete their programs of study at DCC. We feel this partnership will contribute to increasing the number of baccalaureate degrees in this area.?

This structured program allows PASSPORT students the opportunity to be enrolled at DCC while being involved in campus life at Averett and DCC. Eligibility for the PASSPORT program is based on performance in high school and SAT/ACT scores. Students who qualify for the program will take carefully selected courses at DCC, which are customized specifically to the student’s academic needs. Eligible students will receive a selection letter, attend an orientation session, sign an agreement, and meet monthly with the Averett Transfer Counselor and the DCC PASSPORT Advisor. Participants also receive an Averett Student ID, Averett email address and are invited to participate in university cultural, athletic, and social activities.
