Richie J. Robertson, Instructor of Administrative Support Technology, was named "Teacher of the Year" by the Student Government Association.

DANVILLE, VA., May 14, 2010 – Nearly 475 graduates received diplomas, certificates, and associate degrees at Danville Community College’s 2010 Commencement, held at the Carrington Pavilion in Danville.

E.B. Fitzgerald III, a retired Gretna Businessman and former DCC Board member was the guest speaker. He challenged to continue their education beyond college and offered tips for success.

The ceremony was also included several awards:

Fitzgerald and retired Danville business owner Roy G. Gignac were awarded the Honorary Associate of Humane Letters Degree, in recognition of their contributions to higher education, the region’s workforce services and especially to Danville Community College.

Richie Jones Robertson, Instructor of Administrative Support Technology, was honored with the Student Government Association's (SGA) Teacher of the Year Award. Robertson was cited for her dedication, concern for students and professionalism.

The Stephanie L. Ferguson Medallion of Courage was presented to Kelly Davis McClain of Danville. She was recognized for her courage and determination to completing a program of study despite adverse health circumstances. McClain, who graduated Magna Cum Laude, received the Associate of Applied Science Degree in Information Systems Technology – Computer Programming Specialization.

The certificates, diplomas, and associate degrees in more than 40 program areas were conferred upon graduates by Ramsey and Dr. Chris Ezell, Vice President, Academic and Student Services.
