DANVILLE, VA, Oct.22, 2009 - Danville Community College formally dedicated its new health sciences building – Foundation Hall at a festive event which featured greetings and remarks by governmental, educational, business and political leaders. Approximately 200 people visited the impressive two-story facility, located on the corner of South Main Street and Kemper Road.

“This is a great day for DCC and the community,? said DCC President Dr. Carlyle Ramsey. “We are grateful to the Danville Regional Foundation for its gift."

Greetings and remarks were given by a variety of governmental, educational and health care leaders, including DCC President Dr. Carlyle Ramsey; Virginia Community Colleges Chancellor Dr. Glenn DuBois; B.R. Ashby, MD, past chair of the Danville Regional Foundation, and member of the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia; Mark Thackston, Chair of the DCC Board; and Darren Conner, Chair of the DCC Educational Foundation Board.

Other speakers included members of the legislative delegation, Delegates Danny Marshall and Donald Merricks, both of whom said they attended DCC; Danville Mayor Sherman Saunders; Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors Chair Coy Harville; W. Bryant Claiborne, member, Halifax County Board of Supervisors; Kevin P. Snow, DDS, President of the Danville Dental Society; Pradeep K. Pradham MD, President of the Danville Medical Society; and Jerel Humphrey, President and Chief Executive Officer, Danville Regional Medical Center. All of the speakers discussed the myriad of benefits the programs and resources will provide to the area.


Remarks were also given by Lt. Col. Doug S. Bunner, commander, Beckley Battalion, U.S. Army Recruiting, who announced a partnership with DCC and the 320th Medical Company in Winston-Salem, NC, that will provide mentorship and career opportunities.


"We see it as a natural relationship. This is an opportunity to connect some people looking for a network coming out of school," Bunner said.

The building was funded by a generous gift of $9.7 million from the Danville Regional Foundation in the summer of 2006. Danville Community College began construction of a 27,000 square-foot, two-story facility, designed by Dewberry, in February 2008. The project was completed by Blair Construction in August 2009.

Foundation Hall is home to several new and existing programs, including,  Registered Nursing (RN), Dental Hygiene, Respiratory Therapy, Medical Laboratory Technology, Dental Assisting, Practical Nursing (LPN), Nurse Aide (CNA), Phlebotomy, and Pharmacy Technician.


Following the ribbon-cutting, students provided tours of the building and demonstrations of the new, high-tech equipment.
