DCC SETS DEDICATION FOR NEW HEALTH SCIENCES BUILDING

 

DANVILLE, VA, Oct.19, 2009 - The dedication of Foundation Hall, Danville Community College’s new health sciences building, will be held Thursday, October 22 at the building site, located on the college campus at the corner of South Main Street and Kemper Road. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 10 a.m., followed by tours of the facility.

The program includes greetings and remarks from a variety of governmental, educational and health care leaders, including DCC President Dr. Carlyle Ramsey, Dr. Glenn DuBois, Chancellor of the Virginia Community College System; B.R. Ashby, MD, past chair of the Danville Regional Foundation, and member of the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia; Mark Thackston, Chair of the DCC Board; and Darren Conner, Chair of the DCC Educational Foundation Board.

Other speakers include Danville Mayor Sherman Saunders; Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors Chair Coy Harville; W. Bryant Claiborne, member, Halifax County Board of Supervisors; Kevin P. Snow, DDS, President of the Danville Dental Society; Pradeep K. Pradham MD, President of the Danville Medical Society; and Jerel Humphrey, President and Chief Executive Officer, Danville Regional Medical Center.

The building was funded by a generous gift of $9.7 million from the Danville Regional Foundation in the summer of 2006. Danville Community College began construction of a 27,000 square-foot, two-story facility, designed by Dewberry, in in January 2008. The project was completed by Blair Construction in August 2009.

Foundation Hall will accommodate several new programs and allow existing programs to grow. The programs include: Registered Nursing (RN), Dental Hygiene, Respiratory Therapy, Medical Laboratory Technology, Dental Assisting, Practical Nursing (LPN), Nurse Aide (CNA), Phlebotomy, and Pharmacy Technician. The first classes are being offered in Fall 2009. In addition to housing programs that support the advancement of individuals in health careers, Foundation Hall will promote professional development for incumbent health care workers and to assist the region through special projects and events which target community wellness.
