DANVILLE, VA., July 17, 2009 - Two camps for high school students focused on building trades and advanced manufacturing will be offered in August by Danville Community College. Both camps are offered free of charge and available on a first-come basis. They are:

“Thing-a-ma-Jig Camp? will be held August 3-7 at DCC’s Regional Center for Advanced Technology and Training (RCATT), 121 Slayton Avenue in the Cyberpark. The camp will explore Electrical Concepts, Rapid Prototyping, Robotics, Solid Works and Corel and Lasers. Classes will be held daily, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with lunch included. Participants will tour local industries and take home the projects they create. The camp is sponsored by DCC and the Summer Career Academies Expansion Project of Central Virginia Community College.

“Carpenters’ Conjunction Camp ? will be held August 10-13, from 8:30 – 1:00 p.m., at DCC’s EIT Building on the main campus. Camp participants will receive an introduction to the building trades, tour housing construction sites, learn to use hand and power tools, and build a project they can take home. Lunch each day is also included. The camp is sponsored by DCC and the Southern Piedmont Career Pathways Consortium.
