DANVILLE, VA, February 16, 2009 – The Manufacturing Technician program at Danville Community College is now recruiting its sixth and seventh cohorts of students interested in seeking a strong knowledge of the skills required by today’s manufacturers. The next class starts March 2 at DCC’s Regional Center for Advanced Technology and Training (RCATT), located at 121 Slayton Avenue in Danville. In addition, another class is being planned for the Halifax County area, starting March 23.

Information sessions for both upcoming programs will be held Thursday, February 26 at 10 a.m., 4 p.m., and 6 p.m. at the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center in South Boston. In the Danville area, the next information session will be held on Thursday, March 12 at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. at RCATT.

The short-term 26-credit program is offered in cooperation with area companies and organizations that are seeking highly skilled workers. Participants develop a strong knowledge of the skills required in manufacturing within a concise and flexible schedule. The certification can be completed in as little as 10 weeks and covers a variety of topics including Business Ethics, Applications in Motor Controls, DC and AC Circuits, KeyTrain Remediation, Team Concepts and Problem Solving, World Class Manufacturing I, Industrial Methods, Survey of Computer Software Applications, Basic Fluid Mechanics-Hydraulics/Pneumatics, Mechanical Maintenance I, Industrial Safety and Preparation for Employment. Funds may be available to assist with tuition for the program.
