DANVILLE, VA, December 16, 2009 – Danville Community College has signed a letter of commitment to join the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) in 2010. Jim Lindley, Counselor and Athletic Coordinator, says starting in August, DCC’s baseball team will participate in the Men’s Sports

Division II.

“This is great news for us at DCC because it will mean our baseball program will be nationally ranked and provide more opportunities for our players to be visible to four-year colleges and universities,? Lindley said.

DCC established its baseball team in 2002. In its seven-year history with the Virginia Community College System Conference, the team, coached by John Bailey of Danville, has won three first place championships (in 2002, 2006, and 2007) and five runner-up trophies (in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008, and 2009). DCC has an overall conference record of 133-41.

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) is the governing body of intercollegiate athletics for two-year colleges. Its mission is to foster a national program of athletic participation in an environment that supports equitable opportunities consistent with the educational objectives of member colleges. The DCC Knights will be one of 33 two-year colleges participating in Region 10.
