Virginia Tech Remembered at DCC

DANVILLE, VA, April 16, 2009 – A day of remembrance was held at Danville Community College in honor of those who died and or were injured at Virginia Tech on April 16, 2007. DCC students, faculty and staff gathered in Oliver Hall for a moment of silence and to hear remarks from DCC President Dr. B. Carlyle Ramsey, who discussed the community college's close association and partnerships with Virginia Tech.

Other speakers included: Virginia Tech alumni Pete Castiglione, Director of Student Development and Enrollment Management; Dr. Harry Kolendrianos, Professor of Business Management; and Dr. Ed White, Dean of the Business and Engineering Technologies Division. The poem, "We Are Virginia Tech" (written by Virginia Tech Professor Nikki Giovanni) was read by Donald Pippin, Director of the Middle College

At the conclusion of the ceremony, the Student Government association President Bobby Roach and SGA Advisors JoLane Dunlap, Jim Lindley, and Donald Pippin presented to Dr. Ramsey a banner bearing the signatures and sentiments of DCC students, faculty, and staff. Ramsey was asked to deliver the banner to Virginia Tech President Dr. Charles W. Steger.

Danville Community College was established through a merger of Danville Technical Institute and the Danville Branch of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (now Va Tech) in 1968.
