A.A. - Southeastern Community College, 1996

B.S. - Western Illinois University, 1998

M.S. - Western Illinois University, 2004

I was born and mostly raised in Burlington, Iowa.  I graduated from Warren Area High School in Warren, PA, and attended one year of college at the Edinboro State College off campus center in Warren.  I worked in the computer center at a bank in Warren for two years, and then moved back to Iowa, where I worked in data processing for about 20 years.

At the age of 40, I decided to go back to college and finish a degree.  I graduated from Southeastern Community College in 1996 and from Western Illinois University with a B.S. in Biology in 1998.  During my undergraduate studies I was working to become a Physician Assistant.  Six weeks before I graduated I became a grandma and my priorities began to shift.   In the fall of 1999, I returned to WIU to work on a Masters degree to be able to teach in a community college.  In the fall of 2000, while still working on my Masters degree, I starting teaching Human Anatomy & Physiology at Carl Sandburg College in Carthage, IL.  The following semester I added General Biology to my teaching schedule.  I taught as an adjunct for 5 years at CSC and one and half years at Southeastern Community College.  I finally completed my M.S. in Biology in December, 2004.  In August, 2005, I started teaching full-time at DCC.

I am married and have twin daughters, Melanie, and Melissa, who live in Illinois, and a son, Michael, and granddaughter, Raven, who live in Florida.  I am an animal lover, having had over the years, 6 hamsters, 2 rabbits, 2 cats, and 6 dogs, but not all at the same time. We currently have two dogs.   My hobbies are sewing and needlework and I love suduko.  I also enjoy reading, especially historical fiction.  I am active in the adult choir and hand bell choir at my church.

I decided to teach because the first professor I had at the community college had such an impact on my life, I wanted to do the same for other students.
