DCC Leadership Academy
A large number of experienced leaders are expected to retire from the community colleges within the next five to seven years, leaving a significant leadership gap in both the faculty and administrative ranks. It is imperative that we recognize and develop leadership potential within our own institution to fill administrative positions.
The purpose of the Danville Community College Leadership Academy is to identify future leaders from within the college and to provide an intensive, challenging program to enhance leadership skills that motivate and empower others to achieve excellence.
Participants in the program will:
-
Clarify career goals
-
Understand current issues in education
-
Develop strategic plans
-
Understand budget preparation
-
Work in a team on a DCC-related project
-
Identify leadership competencies
-
Explore personal and institutional ethics
-
Strengthen relationships
-
Enhance conflict management skills
-
Understand hiring and evaluation policies
-
Become familiar with personality and leadership styles
-
Understand DCC’s role in the community
What Is The Challenge?
DCC and the Virginia Community College System will be witnessing a major loss of experienced faculty and staff during the next five to seven years. The College needs to do more to provide our employees with an opportunity to consider pursuing careers in teaching and administration. It is, indeed, an effective way to grow your own future leaders for DCC and the VCCS...
B. Carlyle Ramsey
President (Spring 2007)
