Pathways for Success DCC invites applications for three (3) full-time, grant funded positions for its Pathways for Success Program. This grant is funded through June 2010 and serves the counties of Pittsylvania and Caswell as well as the city of Danville. Program Coordinator #R0020 The Coordinator reports to the Director of Student Development and Enrollment Management and is responsible for the administration and implementation of the grant, day-to-day operations, and attainment of program goals. Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in Human Services, or related field; knowledge of the barriers to higher education for Trade Act eligible students; working with program budgets; knowledge of collegiate academic and financial aid procedures; experience in assessing student needs, developing individual prescriptive plans, and advising students. Previous experience in coordination of Trade Act Programs; experience working with students from a diverse background; experience as an administrator of grant programs; and knowledge of college and university administration, financial aid programs, and college admission procedures are preferred. Case Manager #R0021 Responsibilities include: conduct initial interviews, screen all applications for accuracy and monitor specific criteria for program eligibility; develop individual plans for each student, monitor the student’s progress, refer student to appropriate partner agencies and/or services, authorize disbursement of funds; collect data for research and reports; assist in development and implementation of program goals and other duties as assigned by the Coordinator. A Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field and significant experience in human services/resources preferred; excellent computer skills a plus. Fiscal Technician #R0022 This position is responsible for all accounting activities for the project; must be able to independently and actively monitor and reconcile grant program budgets; maintain accurate records for all expenditures and transfers of program funding; other duties as assigned by the Coordinator. Significant experience in mid-level accounting and an Associate Degree in Accounting or related field required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Excellent computer skills required. Instructional Assistant #R0002 Danville Community College invites applications for an Instructional Assistant for mathematics, applied mathematics, and physics. This full-time grant-funded position will report to the Director of Learning Resources and Distance Learning and will work both in the Tutoring Center and collaboratively with instructors in classrooms or labs. The Instructional Assistant will assist vocational/technical students who are taking historically difficult courses to improve both their understanding of course materials and their grades. The Instructional Assistant will provide supplemental instruction to students in the areas of mathematics, applied mathematics, physics, and other related areas as assigned. The Instructional Assistant will integrate how-to-learn with what-to-learn. Other duties may include conducting study groups and assisting in the math lab. Primary work schedule will be weekdays; however, some evenings may be required. Employment is contingent on grant approval. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, physics, or a related field is required. Teaching or tutoring experience is preferred. Director of TARE and Coordinator of TARE DCC invites applicants for two positions with the TARE program. Both positions are grant funded, part-time, 30 hours per week. The grant ends October 31, 2008; renewal may be possible. The Director administers the TARE (Training, Assessment, Retention, and Employment) program in the Counties of Henry, Patrick, and Pittsylvania and the Cities of Danville and Martinsville. Reporting to the Vice President of Workforce Services, the Director coordinates the program in cooperation with the Social Services Departments of the Counties and Cities served by the grant. The Coordinator counsels students, conducts assessments, designs and implements training programs, and provides day-to-day program supervision. Both applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree in human relations or related field. A Masters degree is preferred for both. Experience in managing grant programs and grant writing is preferred. Applicants must relate well to people, work effectively within a team environment, and relate to the community college mission. Program Director, Upward Bound #GA007 Search Extended DCC invites applications for the position of Program Director for its Upward Bound Program. Minimum qualifications include a master’s degree in Administration, Guidance/ Counseling, Education, or related field; knowledge of the barriers to higher education for low income and/or first generation college students; grant writing experience; working with program budgets; development of high school curriculum; knowledge of collegiate academic and financial aid procedures; experience in assessing student needs, developing individual prescriptive plans, and advising students. Previous experience in coordination of TRIO Programs; experience working with students from a diverse background; experience as an administrator of federal grant programs; and knowledge of college and university administration, financial aid programs, and college admission procedures are preferred. MEN'S HEAD BASKETBALL COACH Part-time position Danville Community College is seeking a coach to direct its men’s club sport basketball program. The part-time position reports to the Director of Student Development and Enrollment Management. Responsibilities include: serve as the head coach; direct the recruiting of students; coordinate schedules; manage all records and data; and secure annual funds for program operation. The successful candidate should have a minimum of five (5) years coaching experience at the high school, college, or equivalent level; fund raising ability; must possess organization, human relations, and computer skills; and be committed to the community college mission. Nano-materials Experimentalist Danville Community College seeks a hands-on scientist to develop and teach curriculum for a unique nano-materials AAS degree program. Position is predicated on anticipated awards from major funding sources. This program will provide hands-on training to develop skills in the operation and use of high-level laboratory equipment as it applies to the broad area of nanoscience and nanotechnology. Students will learn to use and operate the lab equipment including Atomic Force Microscope (AFM), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), HPLC, Raman, and others. Skills learned will prepare graduates for employment in the nano, pharma, biological, medical sciences, and semi-conductor manufacturing fields. Required qualifications include a minimum of a master’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, or related field and hands-on experience in the setup and operation of AFM, SEM, HPLC, Raman and other high-level lab equipment. Experience in curriculum development and experience and aptitude for teaching and mentoring students working in an experimental lab environment a plus.
